RED-FACED COPS FREE AGENT

Police today released a second suspect without charge, and admitted they are not much further towards arresting anybody in connection with the shocking Armchair Murder.

Detective Inspector Llewdow, drafted in from Aberystwyth CID to head up the Met's homicide investigation, somewhat sheepishly explained away the latest false trail. He was keen to play down the embarrassment of arresting and then releasing a fine servant of queen and country. "We thought we had gathered sufficient evidence for an arrest, but this proved not to be the case," explained a red-faced DI. "The man in question was playing his cards close to his chest, but has now shared enough information so

that we can eliminate him from our inquiries."

Llewdow refused to confirm or deny rumours that the released man, identified only as Bob, was in fact a member of the secret services working under cover on a matter in the national interest. The suspect was alleged to have booked into a quiet location, lured the victim there, before drawing a gun and shooting him. However, an official statement indicated that the deceased man's injuries were inconsistent with the use of a firearm.

Despite this setback, Llewdow was keen to emphasise the positive. "We now have more information, and are a step closer to solving this brutal murder," he said. "Identifying the victim would also be a big breakthrough for the investigation as a whole."
