KNIGHT LIVES TO FIGHT ANOTHER DAY

The infamous Armchair Murderer remained at large after police released yet another suspect without charge in the early hours of this morning. DI Llewdow, brought in from Aberystwyth CID to lead the investigating team, did however admit that detaining a knight of the realm for twenty four hours before letting him go, did not exactly leave his charges smelling of roses.

"I stand by my decision," he said. "We are investigating a brutal and cold-blooded murder, and I must interview anyone who may have information that could help us identify the killer. The two men certainly knew each other, since the deceased was himself arrested whilst a guest of the knight."

Llewdow refused to answer further

questions, especially concerning claims of blackmail. "The knight's position would have made him a target for those in search of patronage, but we have satisfied ourselves that the victim was not demanding money."

Anonymous sources however hinted at a different motive, alleging that a friendly argument may have had a fatal conclusion. Witnesses at the knight's country manor claimed that convivial banter on the patio one evening turned nasty when the dead man's assertion that the pen was mightier than the sword was met with a somewhat literal attempt to violently disprove the hypothesis. These claims initially appeared to be substantiated by the autopsy report, but a second examination revealed the victim's injuries fell a long way short of what was expected.
